On one beautiful sunny morning during my vacation to the beautiful country of Sri Lanka I discovered a new delicacy. New because it was something new for me as I hail from northern part of India. We love South Indian dishes as much as any one else. Let me tell you, all across India, Dosa, idli, Uttapam, Vada, Upma are as popular as in Southern part of India. They are yummy!! foods , healthy food and anytime food. We can eat it anytime of the day. So coming back to the discovery I made. Since I was on vacation at a beautiful resort of Bentota, Srilanka, so during my breakfast time I saw a live counter preparing something like paper Dosa. The only difference was that it had soft boiled egg in its centre, like sunny side up. The dish I discovered was Appam (appa).
Appam is a type of bowl-shaped thin pancake prepared with a fermented batter composed of rice (or rice flour) and coconut milk. which is much like a savory crepe with a soft boiled egg in the middle. It’s served with caramelised onions, toasted coconut and Sri Lankan spices, and diners are encouraged to eat it like a taco. It is very popular in the South of India as well as in Sri Lanka. It is most often consumed for breakfast or for dinner.
I strongly recommend Appam to all egg lovers across globe, its a must try dish and I am sure you won’t be disappointed with it. If you love it than do send me your love.
